2nd City Chorus Annual Show in March | 23 WIFR Rockford - The ...

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The 2nd City Chorus will present its annual show entitled ?2nd City Chorus Unleashed? on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 7:00pm in the historic Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St., Rockford, IL. The award-winning, men?s acappella chorus will perform a variety of songs for the audience?s enjoyment. This year, however, a significant segment of the concert will be dedicated to our love for ?man?s best friend?. Several very recognizable tunes will have ?parody dog lyrics? as written by our director, Joe Tomecek, and the chorus will be in costume for this part of the show.

The chorus is very pleased to have two quartets performing in this year?s show. ?Velvet Hammer? is our chapter quartet and is the reigning 2012 Barbershop Harmony Society Illinois District Champion. Our special guest quartet is ?Dominant Prep?. Bringing a new sound to barbershop, they are the 2012 Barbershop Harmony Society Central States District Champions and fourth place winners at the Society?s International Collegiate Contest in Portland, Oregon this past summer.

Because of this year?s theme, 2nd City Chorus and the PAWS Humane Society have developed a collaborative partnership. The chorus recently performed at the PAWS?s ?Fur Ball? fundraiser, and that organization will be the recipient of a percentage of our show?s proceeds. Additionally, if attendees donate money or pet food to PAWS that night, they will be eligible for a special prize drawing.

To top off the evening, an ?afterglow? will take place immediately after the concert in the same hall. This will consist of the chorus and chapter quartets performing a couple of numbers followed by a longer set by the guest quartet. Appetizers, desserts, coffee and a cash bar will be available.

Tickets are $15.00 for the show and $5.00 for the ?glow?. These tickets are separate and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Chorus members will be selling tickets, and for ticket information, contact Doug Phillips at 815-494-0112/dphill9285@gmail.com. For general information, contact Rick Schultz at 815-997-4526/schultz1077@gmail.com.

Please consider joining us for an evening of excellent entertainment and refreshments while also contributing to the mission of PAWS.
